If you're a cycling fan, and watch any of the Grand Tours or Spring Classics, you've noticed that brightly colors, logo crazy cycling kits that are worn during these events. At a pro level, the sponsors are all vying for visual recognition, the team managers are looking for an overall look-and-feel that gives their teams the most visibility and on a global scale.
We take our same queues from the lessons garnered in this category to create new team kits every season. Then the prior year's kit design has logos removed so we can bring it into the REVO store, for their retail audience.

As Team REVO has grown, and more cycling kits are out on the streets and mountain trails, we're now looking for a little more separation between audiences. The typeface used for REVO was custom, and we added TEAM to the brandmark, and have maintained the brand colors of sage green and poppy yellow to a neutral background of charcoal. This elevates the riders on Team REVO to be easily identified when they're wearing their kits out on training rides - and while they're leading out in their races.
This is our 2nd in a series of cycling posters.
Alpe d'Huez is one of the epic climbs of the Tour de France. It's only been ridden 26 times since they added it to their route list in 1952. Each time a this stage is won, the rider's name is archived forever by a name placard on one of the 21 hairpin turns.
We've been gathering data for several months:
The 26 stage winners, and which corner they belong
The top five finishing times
The accuracy of the elevation and distance
The hardest part was getting the names of each of the winning riders, and their associated turn number, as there are plaques at each turn. The fun bits were adding the details that bring levity to the race; the Devil as he has now become an icon for the tour, Jens Voigt's "shut up legs", and conveying that sense of crowd as the riders climb to the peak.

The 1st of April, every year signifies that the cycling season is officially underway - with the Spring Classics running in full force.
For us in California, we've been putting in base mileage with our cycling mates, and shedding those extra pounds that were put on during the holidays. It also means that the historic cobblestones, pavé, of northern France will be inviting those legendary riders to test their acrobatic skills - come rain or shine.
Arguably, the Paris Roubaix seems to be the most notable in the Spring Classics. As for myself, I favor the Tour of Flanders. It too has the romance, if you can call it that, of the roughly cobbled raceway - with the added torture of steep hill climbs. Really steep. Add the historical elements of place, rider, traditions and the screaming fans. It's a great way to get the season underway.
This year as a special project in the studio, we are putting together a series of cycling posters that celebrate some of the famous races and climbs of European cycling. We've limited the number of posters that will be available - and they will be signed and numbered. This first release is the Ronde van Vlaanderen, Tour of Flander, Le Ronde - which is held in Belgium every spring.

The race began in 1913 - and this year will be its 96th edition through the cobbled hills of Belgium. Of the 17 climbs this year will be several that we've grown to love: Molenberg at 17%, Taaienberg at 18% and my favorite, Koppenberg at 22-25% grade.
We have a local climb here in Laguna Beach, Nyes Place at 20%. It's a challenge for many. But to have a 22%+ grade WITH cobbles, at race pace...yes, that's a whole new level. Cheers to the legends!
