Dana Point Grand Prix Gets Brand Launch
Monday, March 2nd, 2009Into it’s 3rd year, the Dana Point Grand Prix stepped up to National Race Calendar status. So to continue building this event, the City of Dana Point has decided to elevate the look-and-feel of what this event has to offer the community.
This is a ‘criterium race’ - which means that a group of racers ride around the designated course for a stated period of time, trying to get as many laps in as possible. The finish of these races is always stacked with a really fast group of riders.
As we researched other organized events, such as Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, Tour of California and other criteriums around the US – our goal was to create a logo that would convey THIS race in a unique way. One of the things we noticed with other event logos was the use of a single cyclist – or unique typography that included the cyclist in in any round font character.

For us, it was the group aspect of this ride – and this is what we chose to focus on.
We received great feedback from the race committee – and will now focus on the balance of materials that will need to be created for this up coming event. Such as street banners, race jerseys, t-shirts, posters, race numbers, etc. The race is scheduled for Sunday, April 26, 2009.
If you’ve never seen a bike race up-close – I would really encourage you to get out and see this one. You can literally walk around the course and see the speed of the cyclist at any point. I hope some of these images will give you a sense of what it’s like.
And let’s not forget about the kids races…
